Catering
Hello everyone,
For all new parents and for all those that are interested, I’d like to explain the principles behind the catering at The Playhouse.
The menu is based on top-quality organic foodstuffs. From a nutritional point of view the dishes include all the principle elements the children need; in other words carbohydrates (potatoes, pasta and various cereals), protein (meat, fish, eggs, pulses, tofu, seitan, nuts and seeds), vitamins (raw and cooked vegetables), minerals (sea salt and seaweed) and non-saturated fats (extra virgin olive oil).
Faced with an increase in obesity and other illnesses related to poor eating habits, I believe it is important to teach healthy eating habits to children from a young age. Food at The Playhouse is based on variety and quality. The food is healthy and is adapted according to each season of the year. In summer the children eat more cold meals and raw food (which has more liquid and are cooling) and in winter they eat more hot dishes (such as stews) which are warming.
We don’t offer a dessert immediately after the main course as it can interfere with digestion and the assimilation of nutrients, and, in addition, the children eat fruit in the morning. It is possible that some children won’t like certain foods, but little by little they will adapt their habits. The food is tasty and visually attractive (colours, textures...).
Every month I put a copy of the monthly menu on the notice-board so that you can organize the other meals the children eat at home. Every day I ask the teachers if the children have enjoyed the meal and if there quantity was appropriate. In general everything works perfectly, and all the exceptions require is a little patience! If you need any further information, I am at your service.
