Who We Are

The Playhouse is a non-profit-making organisation whose aims are to:

  • Create a multicultural community of parents with young children who would like to make or maintain contact with the English language and culture in the context of child-centred education.
  • Increase links and understanding between the English-speaking and Catalan and Spanish culture(s) and communities.
  • Meeting point and point of contact for other English-language activities aimed at parents and children who wish to take part in a wide variety of groups, workshops and clubs with the aim of offering support and information to those going through the experiences of pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Sarah

Sarah Yandell Founder and coordinator of The Playhouse, Sarah has a degree in Education Studies and 8 years experience in educational management. She is also mother of two young children. The idea for The Playhouse came about when her own children were small and she was looking for an alternative to the traditional model of nursery education in Barcelona. Sarah believes in a child-centred, flexible, individualised and creative approach to early years education, a vital moment in the child’s development. She hopes The Playhouse will become a point of contact and meeting place for all English-speaking parents with young children in Barcelona, strengthening links between English-speakers and locals and getting the most out of the multicultural and multilingual environment we live in.

Raquel

Raquel

A qualified Early Years teacher with a degree from the University of Barcelona, and a student of Shiatzu. I have worked in different schools in Barcelona with children aged 0-6. At the Playhouse I enjoy working in a more creative and flexible way, in a centre where the children are in charge of their own learning experience.

Juana

Juana I have two great vocations in life: art and children. I spent four years in Florence studying art, and a couple more in New York and South America working as an art conservator. I'm currently finishing my Masters degree on Art Therapy with a specialization about children psychology, and now my work at The Playhouse has given me the opportunity to guide children into the amazing world of artistic expression.

Marina Marina

Group Manager afternoon session. Early Childhood Years specialist and qualified Early Years Teacher (0-6 year olds) with a speciality in English.
After studying for my Nursery qualification I went to live in England and loved the experience of being immersed in a different language and culture.
At The Playhouse I have discovered the perfect place to work, due to both the metholodogy we use and the language immersion; highly enriching for both the children and the teaching team.

Noortje Geeris

Working with children is a passion of mine. I have a natural caring instinct and sense of responsibility that helps me connect instantly with children. Because of my education in ‘Dealing with Loss” I have learned to recognise the essential needs of the child. Choosing an analytical, creative approach and using patience creates a trusting relationship with the child. Children have a natural ability to be open and pure and have a sense of humour which I can learn a lot from.
I'm really happy to be part of the team of The Playhouse!
